I am an American who for about twenty years was a professor at the Hochschule fuer Muik Freiburg until my recent retirement. As an American I am used to the closing of cultural institutions in America. But Germany should be different. Germany is the home of Beethoven, Bach, Goethe, Mann, and so many others who have contributed so much to not only the cultural life of Germany but also the world. Art has always been a priority in this country. So it is shocking to me that the Ministerium would let such a thing happen to the Musik Hochschules in both Trossingen and Mannheim. The work of the Ministerium is no doubt very difficult at times, but it is exceptional times like this when the leaders of the Ministerium need to step up and show the courage and willingness to fight for what is of ultimate importance. if this is allowed to happen, the legacy of the current leadership will be a disgrace to to all who hold culture and a cultured society to be important.
